Chemicals & Specialty Materials Q3 2023 Earnings Summary

Price decreases intensified in Q3 2023

  • Performance continued to deteriorate in Q3 2023 with overall organic growth declining by (17.0%) versus Q3 2022
  • Unlike the prior three quarters, pricing was the key factor contributing to deteriorating performance. Prices declined (14.2%) over the prior year with declines in all sub-sectors (except Coatings & Adhesives)
    • Price decreases continued to intensify in Fertilizers and Commodities as input costs dropped from the high levels observed in the previous year
    • While Coatings & Adhesives players were able to push through price increases, the rate of change has clearly slowed
  • The decline in year-over-year volume was not as pronounced in Q3 2023 (down (2.8%) on average)
    • Agchems & Fertilizers bucked the downtrend along with Minerals & Inorganics
